Deliver Us (2023)

Deliver Us is the kind of religious horror that doesn’t just fling jump scares at you—it builds a slow, oppressive sense of dread until the air feels thin, then punctuates it with startling, striking images you won’t soon shake. Cru Ennis and Lee Roy Kunz lean hard into moody cinematography and wintry, remote-European unease, making every corridor and candlelit room feel like it’s hiding a secret older than the Church itself. The performances anchor the madness—especially Kunz’s conflicted Father Fox and Alexander Siddig’s steely Cardinal Russo—so the story plays less like campy prophecy and more like a grim, methodical descent. Fair warning: it’s graphically violent and unflinching, so it’s not for the squeamish, but if you like your horror atmospheric, stylish, and willing to go all the way, this one delivers.

Deliver Us is clearly aiming for a glossy, Vatican-prophecy shocker with a strong hook: immaculate conception, twin destinies, and a race to stop the “wrong” child. The problem is that the story often feels like it’s sprinting past its own logic, with choppy pacing and plot turns that play more confusing than chilling, so the big premise never quite earns the payoff it promises. If you want tight mythology, coherent rules, and a finale that really lands, this will likely frustrate you. If, however, you’re mainly here for grim religious imagery, polished visuals, and frequent, very graphic gore (plus some nudity), it can still deliver a nasty little ride in bursts.
