Crawlspace (2022)

Crawlspace is a lean, nasty little pressure-cooker that turns one cramped hiding place into an arena for nerve-jangling suspense, where every creak of floorboard feels like a countdown. Henry Thomas is the secret weapon: he starts with an unassuming, everyday warmth that makes his shifts into ferocity feel earned, and the film’s wry, almost mean-spirited humor keeps the tension from going monotonous. Director L. Gustavo Cooper stages the action with a tight, tactile sense of space, letting the cabin’s layout become its own kind of trap while the danger circles closer and closer. Fair warning: the violence and profanity are not subtle, but if you like your thrillers gritty, contained, and darkly funny, this one delivers the goods.

Crawlspace (2022) is clearly aiming for a tight, claustrophobic survival thriller where one bad decision traps an ordinary guy in a nightmare and forces him to outthink violent criminals. The problem is it plays like a checklist of familiar beats—so predictable and generic that the tension often leaks out before it can build, and the script doesn’t give the actors much to work with, which makes some moments land awkwardly or even unintentionally funny.
