Asif Kapadia builds the story with the tension of a thriller—rivalries, politics, and split-second decisions—yet never loses sight of Senna’s inner life: his faith, his patriotism, and the quiet weight of what he carried beyond the cockpit. Even if you don’t care about Formula One, the film makes you feel the stakes in your bones, and by the end you understand why he became more than a champion to so many people. It’s not an easy watch—there are genuinely disturbing real-life crash images—but if you can handle that, it’s one of the most gripping and moving documentaries you’ll see.

Senna is trying to turn a decade of Formula 1 into a gripping, emotional hero’s journey, and as a piece of storytelling it largely succeeds—fast, tense, and surprisingly intimate for an archive-footage documentary.
