Predators (2010)

Predators feels like the franchise remembering exactly what made it great: a lean, nasty survival thriller that drops you into the jungle and never lets the tension off the throttle. Nimród Antal stages the action with crisp clarity and a pulpy confidence, while Adrien Brody brings a wary, feral intensity that sells the movie’s “hunter vs. hunted” mood without winking at it. It’s fun in the best way—smartly paced, inventively brutal, and threaded with just enough philosophical bite to make the carnage feel like more than noise. If you want a thoughtful, suspenseful return to form rather than a lore-heavy deep dive, this is a satisfying, blood-pumping ride.

Predators is clearly trying to bottle the original film’s stripped-down survival tension by dropping a nasty group of humans into a simple “hunt or be hunted” setup and letting the action do the talking. The problem is the talking: most characters are sketched in broad strokes, the plot beats feel familiar, and the script occasionally leans on noise and gore instead of suspense. That said, it’s competently paced, has a few fun creature/setting ideas, and Adrien Brody commits harder than you’d expect. If you want a lean, pulpy monster chase with R-rated bite, you’ll get it—but if you’re hoping for sharp writing, memorable characters, or the creeping dread of the original, this may feel like a serviceable imitation rather than a must-watch.
