Blueback is clearly aiming for a gentle, family-friendly fable about ocean conservation and the way a child’s bond with nature can shape a lifetime, and its coastal visuals and sincere performances (especially from the younger cast) do a lot of the heavy lifting. The problem is it often feels more like a well-meaning lesson than a fully lived-in drama, with on-the-nose dialogue and a flashback structure that can flatten the tension instead of building it.
