Ride or Die (2021)

Ride or Die is special because it refuses to choose between tenderness and danger—it lets romance bloom in the same breath as a breathless, nerve-tight thriller. Ryuichi Hiroki gives the story a pulsing, on-the-run momentum, but what really hooks you is the raw chemistry between Kiko Mizuhara and Honami Sato, whose connection feels messy, urgent, and undeniably alive. The film carries a dark, electric vibe—part road movie, part revenge tale—yet it keeps finding flashes of joy and intimacy that make the stakes feel personal rather than just sensational. It’s not for everyone, especially with its early violence, nudity, and themes of abuse, but if you can handle the intensity, it’s a bold, emotionally charged ride that lingers like a bruise you can’t stop touching.

Ride or Die is clearly aiming for a Thelma & Louise-style lovers-on-the-run thriller, mixing trauma, desire, and revenge into something raw and intimate. When it works, the chemistry and moody road-trip atmosphere can be genuinely gripping, and it doesn’t flinch from the ugliness of abuse. But be warned: the story can feel oddly stitched together, with long, slow stretches and choices that may read as more “what?” than “wow,” especially as it heads toward a messy, uncertain payoff. If you want a tight thriller with clean logic and brisk momentum, this will test your patience; if you’re okay with a bleak, sensual, sometimes disorienting character spiral (plus significant nudity and early violence), it might land better.
