Elijah Bynum films the bodybuilding world with a visceral, almost feverish momentum, but the real engine is Jonathan Majors, who gives Killian Maddox a ferocious physical presence and a raw, aching loneliness that makes you feel the cost of every choice. The vibe is tense and electric—part modern tragedy, part cautionary tale—always pushing toward the moment where fantasy and reality can’t coexist anymore. It’s not an easy watch (the violence, drugs, and emotional volatility are the point), but if you’re drawn to uncompromising performances and filmmaking that hits like a body blow, this one earns your attention.

Magazine Dreams is aiming for a raw character study about loneliness, celebrity hunger, and self-destruction in the bodybuilding world, and it commits hard to that ugly, bruising headspace. The problem is it can feel structurally messy and overstuffed, piling on incidents and side threads until the story starts to blur into a single, relentlessly bleak spiral rather than a coherent drama. If you’re looking for catharsis, warmth, or even a clean narrative arc, this one may just feel punishing and overwritten.
