Following a young veteran and a driven wildlife biologist in the Peruvian Amazon, the film becomes an intimate, lived-in portrait of healing that arrives sideways, through the daily discipline of caring for an orphaned ocelot and confronting what the jungle takes as well as what it gives. The directors capture animal life with a patient, clear-eyed beauty, while keeping the human story raw and compassionate, never smoothing the edges with easy answers. It’s not a light watch and the intensity can sting, but if you’re open to a documentary that’s heartfelt, moving, and quietly life-affirming, Wildcat earns your attention and then your trust.

Wildcat is clearly aiming for a raw, intimate look at trauma and healing, using the Amazon and the rescue of an orphaned ocelot as a lifeline for a veteran who’s barely keeping it together. The problem is it sometimes leans hard into a redemption-story framing that can feel ethically messy, as if real people and animals are being shaped into a narrative rather than fully understood on their own terms. If you want a rigorous, journalistic documentary with clear context, hard questions, and satisfying answers about what’s happening and why, this may leave you frustrated and emotionally wrung out without much resolution. Still, the access is extraordinary and the bond with the animals is genuinely affecting—just know you’re signing up for something more visceral than tidy, and potentially upsetting in both content and implications.
