Chloe is clearly aiming for a sleek, erotic psychological thriller about jealousy, control, and the stories we tell ourselves to keep a marriage intact, and on paper it’s a tasty setup. Egoyan and a strong cast give it a polished, adult tone, with Julianne Moore and Amanda Seyfried doing committed work even when the script asks them to sell some questionable turns. The problem is that the tension often comes from sensational beats and explicit talk rather than genuinely earned suspense, and by the time it leans into “thriller mode,” it can feel conventional and a bit preposterous. If you’re looking for a smart, tightly plotted mystery, this may test your patience—but if you’re okay with a glossy, provocative slow-burn that’s more about atmosphere and obsession than logic, it’ll go down easier.
