Mia Hansen-Løve directs with a gentle, precise touch, letting Léa Seydoux give a beautifully lived-in performance as a woman juggling motherhood, desire, and the slow heartbreak of a parent slipping away. The romance isn’t packaged as escapism; it’s messy, human, and sometimes aching, which only deepens the film’s honesty and emotional pull.
