Stephen Lang gives a magnetic, flint-edged performance that keeps you leaning in even when every instinct says to back up, and the film’s sharp dialogue makes the menace feel intimate rather than theatrical. With spare staging and a thick, creeping atmosphere, it plays like a campfire tale told by someone who’s smiling a little too long, letting intrigue build until you realize the walls are closing in. If you want big set pieces and constant shocks, this isn’t that kind of ride—but if you like horror that’s driven by acting, tension, and unsettling questions, it’s a gripping watch.

Old Man is aiming for a stripped-down, cabin-in-the-woods psychological thriller where tension comes from two men circling each other and the creeping sense that reality isn’t stable. When it works, it’s largely because Stephen Lang commits hard and gives the film some real menace and worn-in sadness. The problem is the script leans on familiar “mystery in a bottle” beats and talky, on-the-nose dialogue, so if you’re even mildly genre-literate you may feel the reveals coming long before the movie thinks you will.
