What people think about Terminator Genisys
What makes Terminator Genisys worth your time is its gleeful willingness to treat the franchise like a time-travel playground—remixing familiar DNA into something brisk, big, and unapologetically crowd-pleasing. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s return as “Pops” gives the film its beating heart: a surprisingly warm, wry presence amid the metal-on-metal mayhem, anchoring the spectacle with charisma only he can supply. Director Alan Taylor keeps the pace humming with glossy set pieces, punchy chases, and that satisfying sci-fi dread of a future that won’t sit still. It’s not a meditative, stripped-down thriller like the earliest entries, but if you want a fun, high-energy Terminator ride that respects the classics while twisting the timeline into new shapes, this one delivers.
“Terminator Genisys” is clearly trying to reboot the franchise by remixing familiar characters and timelines into a new, crowd-pleasing sci‑fi action ride, with Arnold’s presence doing a lot of the heavy lifting. The problem is the story turns into a knot of timeline gymnastics and exposition dumps that make it hard to feel real momentum or stakes, and the tone wobbles between grim legacy sequel and quippy blockbuster. The action is serviceable but rarely inventive, and the newer leads don’t consistently sell the emotional weight the script demands. If you want a clean, tense, character-driven “Terminator” like the best entries, this may feel like a cynical retread—but if you’re happy with loud set pieces, nostalgia beats, and a “don’t think too hard” approach, you’ll find some fun in it.
