Surviving Sid (2008)

Surviving Sid is a brisk, mischievous little burst of Ice Age charm that turns Sid’s boundless confidence into a full-on comedy engine, the kind that keeps escalating until you’re laughing at how much worse it can possibly get. The animation is crisp and colorful, and the humor lands in that sweet, family-friendly zone where kids giggle at the slapstick while adults appreciate the clever timing and Sid’s gloriously misguided “leadership.” It’s got the vibe of a chaotic campfire tale told by someone who absolutely should not be in charge of the campsite, with Scrat popping in like a perfectly timed punchline. If you’re looking for a short, light, imaginative watch rather than a big emotional epic, this one’s an easy win.

Surviving Sid is clearly trying to be a quick, kid-friendly Ice Age side dish: a string of slapstick mishaps where Sid’s well-meaning incompetence is the whole joke. The problem is that it’s thin on story and lighter on genuinely memorable laughs than the franchise’s better shorts, so it can feel more like noisy filler than a satisfying mini-adventure. If you don’t enjoy “watch the lovable idiot fail repeatedly” humor, or you’re hoping for the charm and momentum of the main films, this will probably test your patience.
