Suck (2009)

Rob Stefaniuk leans into a grungy, neon-lit vibe where the jokes land with a wink, the blood comes in cheeky spurts, and the music-forward momentum keeps the whole thing moving like a tour van that refuses to die. Part of the fun is the parade of musician cameos—Malcolm McDowell chewing scenery as a neurotic Van Helsing, with Iggy Pop and Henry Rollins adding extra flavor—making it feel like a backstage pass to a weirdly charming genre mash-up. It’s not for purists who want serious horror or pristine production polish, but if you’re on the fence and you like your comedy-horror with attitude, atmosphere, and a genuinely original pulse, this one earns its cult status.

Suck is clearly trying to be a scrappy, rock-and-roll vampire road movie—part horror, part comedy, part backstage hangout—with a love letter vibe to indie music culture and genre fans. The problem is it leans harder on cameos and “isn’t this cool?” energy than on tight jokes or genuinely tense horror, so the tone can feel uneven and a bit self-conscious. If you’re expecting sharp satire, big laughs, or real scares, you’ll likely find it more charming in concept than in execution.
