30 Days of Night: Dark Days is a lean, mean vampire thriller that trades gothic romance for raw, street-level desperation, following a survivor who turns her trauma into a weapon and dares the darkness to come closer. It’s soaked in a grim, nihilistic mood that feels like neon-lit Los Angeles has been drained of warmth, and Ben Ketai keeps the pace tight with nasty surprises, crunchy splatter, and a constant sense that no one is safe. Kiele Sanchez gives the story its backbone, playing Stella with a bruised determination that makes the carnage feel personal instead of cartoonish. If you want elegant mythology or subtle scares, this isn’t that kind of night—but if you’re in the mood for a dark, disturbing ride that doesn’t blink first, it delivers.

30 Days of Night: Dark Days is clearly trying to pivot the franchise into a revenge-driven vampire-hunter thriller, with Stella taking charge and the story moving from icy isolation to big-city shadows. The problem is it rarely earns that shift: the pacing drags, the writing leans on convenient twists, and the scares feel oddly muted for something this bloody. If you loved the original for its relentless dread and feral menace, this sequel can feel like a smaller, flatter echo with less atmosphere and fewer memorable characters. Still, if you just want some R-rated vampire carnage, a few nasty set-pieces, and a straightforward “hunt the queen” plot without expecting much logic or tension, it may scratch the itch.
