Kill Her Goats (2023)

Kill Her Goats is the kind of scrappy, cheerfully disreputable slasher that knows exactly what it is: a late-night, neon-blooded throwback that plays like an ’80s VHS discovery with fresh paint and a wicked grin. Director Steve Wolsh leans hard into crunchy practical effects and gleefully brutal set pieces, and Kane Hodder brings real genre gravitas as Goatface, giving the mayhem a hulking, old-school menace. The vibe is rowdy and party-fueled—more “watch with friends and gasp-laugh” than “brooding prestige horror”—and it moves with the shameless confidence of a movie that came to spill buckets, not whisper. Fair warning: the nudity is frequent and the gore is extreme, so it’s not for the squeamish or the prudish, but if you want a fun, low-budget splatter ride with personality, it delivers.

Kill Her Goats is clearly aiming for a throwback, party-at-a-mansion slasher where the point is loud kills, cheap thrills, and a masked menace (with Kane Hodder adding some genre credibility). The problem is the movie doesn’t give you much to hang those set pieces on: the plot feels random, the pacing drifts through long dead zones, and the acting often can’t sell the tension it’s reaching for. It also leans heavily into constant nudity and shock value, so if you want actual suspense, coherent motivation, or characters you care about, this will feel like a mess. If you’re the type who can treat it as a trashy, gore-first midnight watch, you might find some guilty-pleasure fun in the brutality and occasional slasher vibes.
