Dead Man Running (2009)

Dead Man Running is a lean, clock-ticking London crime thriller that knows exactly how to turn desperation into momentum, pushing you through a sweaty 24-hour scramble where every bad option somehow gets worse. It plays in that familiar Cockney-underworld key—fast talk, bruised loyalties, and blunt violence—but it’s the chemistry of the central double-act that gives the film its pulse, making the chaos feel personal instead of just noisy. Alex De Rakoff keeps things brisk and street-level, with Tamer Hassan and Danny Dyer selling the panic and camaraderie, while 50 Cent’s loan shark presence adds a cold, watchful pressure to every scene. If you’re allergic to genre clichés, you’ll spot them, but if you want a solid, mildly guilty-pleasure ride with a few genuinely fun moments, it’s an easy watch.

Dead Man Running is clearly aiming for a frantic, Guy Ritchie-ish 24-hour London crime sprint with laddish banter, escalating schemes, and a ticking-clock threat. The problem is the execution: the dialogue often lands stiff and try-hard, the characters feel more like rough sketches than people, and the plotting leans on familiar beats without enough cleverness to make them pop. Performances are uneven (including a fairly limited turn from 50 Cent), so the tension you’re supposed to feel can end up feeling more noisy than gripping.
