What people think about The Fable: The Killer Who Doesn't Kill
The Fable: The Killer Who Doesn’t Kill has a deliciously offbeat hook: a world-class assassin forced into the ultimate challenge—not landing the perfect hit, but living like a harmless civilian and keeping his hands clean. Junichi Okada plays Akira with a deadpan precision that turns everyday social awkwardness into comedy, while the film’s action set-pieces crackle with ingenuity because every fight has to be won without crossing a line. Director Kan Eguchi keeps the vibe breezy and tense at once, sliding from workplace absurdity to underworld menace without losing its playful rhythm. If you want grim realism, this isn’t it, but if you’re on the fence about an action-comedy that’s clever, stylish, and surprisingly sweet about protecting others, it’s an easy recommend.
The Fable: The Killer Who Doesn’t Kill is clearly aiming for that oddball sweet spot where a dead-serious assassin tries to live like a normal guy, mixing sitcom awkwardness with sudden bursts of underworld danger. The problem is the pacing: it can feel long and sluggish, with comedy that’s more scattered than consistently funny, so if you’re expecting a tight action-comedy, you may find yourself waiting for it to wake up. Where it does deliver is in the action set-pieces—Junichi Okada sells the lethal competence, and the choreography has enough snap to remind you why this series exists. If you’re patient with meandering “quiet life” stretches and you mainly want a few standout fights wrapped in quirky crime plotting, it’s worth a look; if you need constant laughs or momentum, this probably isn’t for you.
