Pool Boy Nightmare is the kind of sleek, pulpy thriller that knows exactly what it’s doing: taking an everyday suburban comfort—the backyard pool, the friendly service call, the fresh-start divorce move-in—and turning it into a pressure cooker of suspicion and dread. Director Rolfe Kanefsky keeps the tone brisk and watchable, with Jessica Morris grounding the film in anxious, protective-mother realism while Tanner Zagarino plays the smiling menace with just enough charm to make the danger feel plausible. It’s a TV-movie ride in the best sense—cleanly told, efficiently tense, and packed with the satisfying “how far will this go?” escalation that makes you keep watching. If you’re allergic to heightened melodrama or the genre’s occasional leaps in logic, it may not convert you, but if you want a tight, twisty evening thriller with a nasty streak and a clear sense of stakes, this one delivers.

The problem is the execution: the pacing lurches between “slow and talky” and “suddenly extreme,” and the tone can feel oddly muddled, making the suspense more uncomfortable than genuinely gripping.
