Adipurush (2023)

What people think about Adipurush
Adipurush aims for something big and sincere: a widescreen, mythic retelling of the Ramayana that treats its heroes like legends carved into stone, built for booming music, bold gestures, and larger-than-life stakes. Whatever you’ve heard about its rough edges, the film’s strongest pull is its earnest devotion to epic scale, and Prabhas often carries that weight well, projecting a steady, statuesque dignity as Raghava that makes the quest feel purposeful. The vibe is unabashedly fantastical and operatic—monkey-warrior camaraderie, demon-king menace, and a march toward an all-out showdown—best enjoyed if you’re in the mood for spectacle and devotion rather than subtle drama. It’s not for viewers who demand polished effects and sharp dialogue, but if you want a modern, high-volume myth where the imagery and heroism do most of the talking, it’s an easy curiosity to press play on.
Adipurush is clearly aiming to be a big, modern, effects-driven retelling of the Ramayana, with grand-scale action and a straightforward good-versus-evil rescue quest. The problem is that the screenplay and pacing feel oddly flat for such a mythic story, and the dialogues often land with a thud instead of the weight or poetry you’d expect. The visual effects and overall look can also come off clunky and artificial, which makes it harder to buy into the world when the film desperately needs you to be immersed. If you’re deeply attached to the epic or want sharp writing and convincing spectacle, this may test your patience—but if you can overlook uneven execution for a familiar story, a few large-scale set pieces and committed performances might still give you something to latch onto.
