Mia, a drug addict, is determined to kick the habit. To that end, she asks her brother, David, his girlfriend, Natalie and their friends Olivia and Eric to accompany her to their family's remote forest cabin to help her through withdrawal. Eric finds a mysterious Book of the Dead at the cabin and reads aloud from it, awakening an ancient demon. All hell breaks loose when the malevolent entity possesses Mia.

Explained

What people think about Evil Dead

Evil Dead (2013) earns its keep by taking a familiar cabin-in-the-woods setup and turning it into a mean, muscular endurance test—less wink-and-nod, more full-body dread—shot with the confidence of a director who knows exactly how to make you squirm. Fede Álvarez keeps the tension ratcheting tighter with practical, up-close gore that feels grimly tactile, while Jane Levy gives a ferocious, committed performance that grounds the madness in something uncomfortably human. The vibe is relentless and nasty in the best way, honoring the franchise’s demonic chaos without simply replaying Sam Raimi’s beats, and it builds to set pieces that are as inventive as they are punishing. If you want horror that pulls its punches, look elsewhere—but if you’re on the fence and craving a modern shocker that goes all in and actually delivers, this one is hard to shake.
