Bad Teacher (2011)
A lazy, incompetent middle school teacher who hates her job and her students is forced to return to her job to make enough money for a boob job after her rich fiancé dumps her.
What people think about Bad Teacher
Bad Teacher is the kind of studio comedy that dares to be gleefully inappropriate, powered by Cameron Diaz delivering one of her most brazen, committed comic performances—fearless enough to make Elizabeth Halsey both appalling and weirdly mesmerizing. The movie’s vibe is sharp, trashy, and mean in a way that feels almost refreshing, with Jake Kasdan keeping the pace snappy and the jokes coming fast, while Justin Timberlake and Jason Segel slide in with perfectly timed, laugh-forward support. It’s not trying to redeem its heroine so much as let her run wild, and that unapologetic streak is exactly what makes it such an easy watch when you want something rude and reckless. If crude humor, sexual jokes, and generally bad behavior aren’t your thing, you’ll bounce off it—but if you can handle the filth, it’s a reliably funny, pleasantly shameless ride.
Bad Teacher is clearly aiming for a nasty, anti-role-model comedy where the joke is how far a selfish adult will go to get what she wants, and Cameron Diaz commits to that shameless energy. The problem is the movie often mistakes meanness for punchlines, so if you don’t enjoy cynical humor and a lead character who’s more unpleasant than endearing, it can feel like a long stretch of bad behavior without enough payoff. The script has a few sharp moments, but the comedy comes in fits and starts, and the Diaz–Timberlake dynamic is more awkward than electric, which blunts the rom-com angle it keeps leaning on. If you’re fine with heavy crude/sexual humor and want something breezy and trashy, you may get a few laughs; if you’re hoping for clever satire, warmth, or characters you can root for, this probably isn’t your night.
