“Luca” is aiming for a sun-drenched, coming-of-age postcard—friendship, belonging, and a gentle fantasy twist on the Italian Riviera—and on that basic vibe, it mostly delivers. The catch is that it plays things very safe: the story beats are familiar, the lessons are straightforward, and some characters lean on broad, stock types rather than feeling uniquely Pixar. If you go in expecting the studio’s usual emotional gut-punch or a tightly layered plot, this may feel lighter, smaller, and a bit “been there” in the third act.
