Little Nicholas (2009)

Laurent Tirard captures childhood logic with affectionate precision—the way a half-heard adult conversation can snowball into epic panic—and Maxime Godart makes Nicolas’s worries both ridiculous and completely believable. The humor is gentle but constant, fueled by a terrific kid ensemble and a winning grown-up pairing in Valérie Lemercier and Kad Merad, all wrapped in a cozy, storybook period vibe.
