[REC]² is the rare horror sequel that doesn’t coast on brand recognition—it kicks the door back open and charges into the same nightmare with even sharper teeth, turning that apartment building into a pressure cooker of panic. The found-footage style isn’t a gimmick here; it’s the engine of the dread, trapping you in tight corridors with a SWAT team whose professionalism crumbles one shaky breath at a time as the situation mutates into something far more unsettling than a routine quarantine. Paco Plaza and Jaume Balagueró keep the momentum merciless, stacking scares and mayhem with the kind of clean, brutal pacing that makes you realize you’ve been holding your breath for minutes. It’s not for the squeamish—there’s graphic violence and a grim, claustrophobic vibe—but if you want a horror ride that stays tense, nasty, and compulsively watchable, this one delivers.

[REC]² is clearly trying to do the smart sequel thing: pick up immediately after the first film, go bigger with a tactical team, and keep the found-footage panic at full volume. The problem is it often feels like “more of the same, but louder,” leaning on relentless intensity and gore instead of genuinely fresh ideas, and the new demonic mythology will either spice things up for you or make you miss the tighter, simpler terror of the original. The split storyline with the teens adds extra bodies and chaos, but it can also dilute the claustrophobic focus that made [REC] hit so hard. If you loved the first movie mainly for its raw, escalating dread and don’t want lore-heavy explanations, this may frustrate you; if you just want a nasty, fast, high-adrenaline continuation with a few creepy night-vision set pieces, it delivers.
