Aloha (2015)

Aloha is the kind of easygoing, sunlit romantic dramedy that wins you over less with plot mechanics than with mood: a breezy “hangout” in gorgeous Hawaiian scenery where charm does a lot of the heavy lifting. The problem is it drifts rather than builds, with a story that can feel oddly stitched together—scenes land like fragments, emotions spike without much setup, and the sentimentality starts doing the heavy lifting the script won’t. Even the Hawaii backdrop, which should be a character in itself, often comes off as a glossy postcard instead of something lived-in or thoughtfully explored. If you’re in the mood for a loose, dreamy rom-com with a few charming moments and a likable cast, you might coast along; if you need coherent plotting, earned romance, or a respectful sense of place, this will likely test your patience.
