Danis Tanović directs with a photojournalist’s eye for stark, unforgettable images, and Colin Farrell delivers one of those performances that feels lived-in: raw, guarded, and gradually devastating as the truth presses in. The film’s vibe is tense and intimate, a mystery built from silences and half-confessions, sharpened by Christopher Lee’s calm, probing presence as a psychoanalyst who knows that survival can come with its own kind of guilt. It’s not for viewers looking for action or easy catharsis—the subject matter is heavy and the images can be disturbing—but if you want a thriller that doubles as a humane, haunting study of trauma, it’s worth the time.

Triage is aiming for a sober, psychological look at what war does to the people who come back, using a mystery structure to slowly pry open a photographer’s trauma and guilt. The problem is it often feels more like a carefully arranged therapy session than lived experience, with dialogue that can sound over-written and emotional beats that don’t always land as hard as they should. The pacing is deliberate to a fault, so if you want a taut thriller or a mystery with satisfying momentum, this may feel frustratingly distant. That said, Colin Farrell commits fully and there are a few haunting images that linger, so it can work if you’re in the mood for a grim, talk-heavy character study rather than a plot-driven ride.
