Filmed in front of a live D.C. crowd, it has that bracing, clubby immediacy—less about polish than about the precision of the rhythm, the confidence of the pauses, and the way a single blunt observation can bloom into a whole argument you didn’t know you were having. He ranges widely—from religion and small-town absurdities to darker historical and cultural nerves—and the comedy often lands because it’s willing to stare at taboo subjects until they reveal their contradictions. It’s not for everyone, especially if you’re understandably unwilling to engage with him given his personal controversy, but if you can separate the work from the man even briefly, the craft on display is hard to deny.

The problem is the tone can feel heavy and self-protective, and if you’re expecting a genuinely frank reckoning with his misconduct, you may find the approach evasive or unsatisfying rather than cathartic. A lot of the material leans into bleak territory (religion, terrorism, Auschwitz) where the punchlines land unevenly, and for some viewers it plays less like daring comedy and more like a depressing trudge. If you still love his rhythm and don’t mind discomfort—or you’re mainly here for the craft of his joke construction—you’ll get flashes of the old precision, but if the controversy is a dealbreaker or you want lighter, more generous stand-up, this probably isn’t for you.
