Boogeyman 3 (2008)
When a college student witnesses the alleged suicide of her roommate, it sets into motion a series of horrific events that cause her to fear the supernatural entity. As she tries to convince the rest of her dorm that the Boogeyman does exist, the evil force grows stronger and her friends begin to pay the price. Now she must stop this ultimate evil before the entire campus falls prey.
What people think about Boogeyman 3
Boogeyman 3 works best when it turns a familiar campus setting into a pressure cooker of paranoia, where the scariest idea isn’t just what’s lurking in the dark, but how quickly fear spreads from room to room. Director Gary Jones keeps the pace brisk and the vibe mean-spirited in a fun, late-night way, leaning into mirrors, closets, and cramped dorm spaces to deliver clean, punchy jolts without getting bogged down in mythology. Erin Cahill gives the story a grounded center, selling the creeping dread even when everyone around her insists it’s all in her head. It’s not elevated horror and it does come with heavy party-campus content and intense scares, but if you want an easy-to-watch, surprisingly solid sequel that plays like a haunted dorm rumor come to life, this one delivers.
Boogeyman 3 is clearly trying to do a campus-set “fear makes the monster stronger” story, with mirrors, closets, and dorm paranoia as its engine. The problem is it plays like a bargain-bin remix of better supernatural slashers: the scares are repetitive, the characters often behave like plot devices, and the acting and dialogue don’t sell the escalating dread. If you need inventive set pieces, sharp writing, or genuinely unsettling atmosphere, this will likely feel generic and undercooked. On the plus side, it moves at a decent clip and has a few serviceable creepy-mirror moments, so it can work as low-stakes background horror if your expectations are firmly in the “late-night sequel” zone.
