Cold Prey II (2008)

Cold Prey II takes the rare slasher sequel route of getting leaner, meaner, and more confident, turning a familiar setup into a white-knuckle exercise in pure suspense. Trading snowy isolation for the fluorescent dread of an empty hospital, it sustains an eerie, after-hours vibe where every corridor feels like a dare and every silence has teeth. Mats Stenberg’s direction and sharp editing keep the movie moving at a brisk, nervy clip, while Ingrid Bolsø Berdal anchors the chaos with a tough, human performance that makes you root for survival, not just spectacle. Fair warning: it’s nasty and graphic, so if gore isn’t your thing you’ll want to steer clear—but if you like your horror efficient, atmospheric, and relentlessly tense, this one delivers.

Cold Prey II is clearly trying to deliver a tight, no-nonsense continuation of the first film: same survivor, same threat, but shifted into a darker, emptier hospital setting that’s built for tension and panic. It mostly succeeds as a grim, efficiently staged slasher with a committed lead performance from Ingrid Bolsø Berdal and a few genuinely nasty set-pieces. The problem is that it rarely surprises you—if you’ve seen a handful of “killer isn’t dead” sequels, you’ll spot the beats coming a mile away, and the film leans more on brutality and momentum than fresh ideas. If you’re squeamish about graphic gore or you need originality to stay engaged, this will feel like a well-made rerun; if you just want a bleak, bloody chase with a solid atmosphere, it does the job.
