When in Rome (2010)

When in Rome is the kind of breezy romantic comedy that knows exactly what it wants to be: a sunlit fairy tale with a New York punchline, powered by Kristen Bell’s endlessly likable mix of sharpness and vulnerability. The “magic fountain” hook gives the movie permission to go delightfully broad, sending a parade of eccentric suitors crashing into Beth’s carefully managed life, while still leaving room for a sweet, grounded spark when Josh Duhamel’s earnest reporter shows up and refuses to be dismissed. Mark Steven Johnson keeps the tone light and fizzy—more postcard escapism than deep romance—and the best fun comes from watching Bell play straight against all that comic chaos. It’s not for anyone hunting surprises or realism, but if you want a pleasant, playful date-night movie with charm to spare, this one goes down easy.
