Center Stage: Turn It Up is the kind of movie that wins you over with movement first: it’s a glossy, high-energy dance romance that treats ambition like a heartbeat and lets the choreography do the talking. The fun is in the contrast—ballet’s discipline brushing up against club-floor swagger—while the camera stays close enough to make every rehearsal, misstep, and breakthrough feel earned. Rachele Brooke Smith brings an easy likability to Kate’s underdog drive, and the chemistry with Kenny Wormald gives the story a warm, wish-fulfillment spark without turning it syrupy. It’s undeniably a familiar “dream big” formula, but if you’re even slightly tempted by dance movies that are more about momentum and feeling than realism, this one delivers.

Center Stage: Turn It Up wants to be an upbeat, backstage fairy-tale about a scrappy dancer learning that passion and personality matter as much as technique, with a romance to keep it glossy. The problem is it plays like a checklist sequel: familiar beats, obvious turns, and a “dream gig” payoff you can see coming from the first audition. If you’re hoping for the spark, depth, or edge of the original, this one can feel like talented dancers trapped inside a made-for-TV script that never quite earns the big emotions. Still, if you mainly want attractive leads, clean PG-13 drama, and plenty of dance sequences without heavy stakes, it’s a painless, easy watch.
