Viduthalai: Part I is clearly aiming to be a hard-hitting, morally thorny thriller about state power, insurgency, and what an “operation” does to the people trapped inside it. The problem is it often chooses blunt force over nuance, with graphic violence that can feel excessive rather than illuminating, and pacing/editing that sometimes undercut tension instead of building it. Add in uneven dubbing and a few side threads that distract from the central conflict, and you may find yourself admiring the intent more than the experience.
