What people think about Soo
Soo is the kind of crime thriller that feels carved out of hard experience: coolly controlled, sharply observed, and punctuated by bursts of violence that actually mean something. Director Yōichi Sai gives the twin-path premise real weight, letting the camera linger on evocative images—especially the recurring sense of water trying, and failing, to wash away blood and guilt—so the film plays like a grim poem as much as a revenge story. Ji Jin-hee anchors it with a performance that’s quietly haunted, making the action hit harder because you can feel the cost behind every choice. It’s not for the squeamish—the brutality can be intense—but if you want a stylish, involving underworld drama with themes of spite, purification, and fate tightening like a noose, this one earns your time.
Soo is clearly aiming for a gritty, tragic brothers-on-opposite-sides crime tale, with a hard-boiled revenge engine and bursts of brutal action. The problem is it starts with real momentum and mood, then the script and pacing wobble badly in the back half, leaving characters feeling more like pieces on a board than people you’re meant to care about. If you need tight plotting and emotional payoff to match the violence, this will likely feel frustrating and uneven rather than cathartic. Still, the lead performances have bite and some fight scenes hit with nasty, practical intensity, so it may work if you’re mainly here for grim Korean crime atmosphere and don’t mind a messy landing.
