Ric Roman Waugh directs with a no-nonsense eye for procedural detail and sudden, stomach-knot tension, while Val Kilmer brings a weary intelligence that deepens the film beyond mere brutality. It’s tense, angry, and emotionally raw, finding small flashes of humanity in a place designed to crush it—and that contrast is exactly what makes it so watchable. Fair warning: the violence is graphic and the atmosphere is relentlessly harsh, so it’s not for everyone, but if you want a tough, well-acted thriller-drama that feels uncomfortably real, this one lands.

Felon is aiming for a gritty, no-frills look at how one bad night can drop an ordinary guy into a system that chews people up, and it commits hard to that bleak, pressure-cooker vibe.
