Heroes (2008)

Heroes earns its title by sneaking up on you: it starts with two charming, aimless young men chasing an easy “project,” then steadily turns their road trip into something unexpectedly moving and quietly stirring. Blending action-adventure energy with a warm comic touch, the film uses its journey across India to let patriotism feel personal rather than preachy, anchored by heartfelt performances—especially Preity Zinta and Salman Khan—that give the emotions real weight. It’s well-made in that old-fashioned crowd-pleasing way, where laughter and lump-in-the-throat moments share the same frame without canceling each other out. If you’re allergic to earnest national sentiment, it may feel a bit direct, but if you’re open to a sincere story about sacrifice and what we owe the people who serve, it’s an easy film to admire and hard to forget.

Heroes is clearly aiming to be a heartfelt, youth-friendly road movie that honors fallen soldiers while nudging a complacent generation to take responsibility. The problem is it can’t decide if it wants to be a breezy comedy-adventure or a serious patriotic drama, so the pacing and emotional punch land unevenly from segment to segment. Some moments feel genuinely sincere and moving, but the messaging can come on a bit loud and certain portions play like stitched-together set pieces rather than one cohesive journey.
