Marko Naberšnik captures the Mura Valley with an unhurried, lived-in warmth—card games, shop talk, small rituals—then lets the calm be complicated by a romance that feels less like escapism than a desperate grab at feeling alive. The performances give the film its soul, especially Vlado Novak’s gently comic, deeply human boss, whose old-fashioned decency makes every turn of the story land with extra weight. It’s not for viewers craving a fast plot or easy moral answers, but if you like dramas that feel authentic, funny in the way life is funny, and quietly devastating, this one earns your time.

Rooster’s Breakfast is aiming for a bittersweet, small-town character drama where a drifting young mechanic collides with a slower, more old-fashioned world and inevitably messes it up. The problem is that it can feel shaggy and uneven: long stretches of meandering hangouts and local color sometimes drain tension from what’s supposed to be a morally messy romance and a pressure-cooker situation. If you need tight plotting, subtle melodrama, or characters who consistently make smart choices, this may try your patience. Still, there’s an earthy authenticity to the setting and a lived-in warmth to the older mechanic character that can make the film rewarding if you’re in the mood for something more observational than polished.
