Yummy (2019)

Yummy is the rare horror-comedy that commits so hard to its premise—cosmetic surgery tourism colliding with a zombie outbreak—that it becomes weirdly exhilarating, like a midnight movie powered by pure bad decisions and good practical effects. Director Lars Damoiseaux keeps the pace sprinting through grimy corridors and escalating set pieces, delivering splattery, hands-on gore that feels gleefully old-school while still landing modern punchlines. The vibe is irreverent, nasty, and energetic, the kind of film that wants you laughing and wincing in the same breath as bodies and egos come apart with equal enthusiasm. It’s absolutely not for the squeamish (or anyone allergic to nudity and extreme violence), but if you want a fast, funny, unapologetically messy zombie ride, this one hits the sweet spot.

Yummy is clearly aiming for a sleazy, splattery zombie-comedy that pokes fun at cosmetic surgery culture while turning a grimy hospital into a gore-soaked playground. The problem is it rarely feels clever enough to justify how familiar it all is: the setup and beats are very “zombie outbreak 101,” and the humor often goes broad and crude rather than sharp. It’s also aggressively graphic and mean-spirited at times (sexual content, attempted assault, and heavy dismemberment-level gore), so if you’re not specifically in the mood for nasty, lowbrow carnage, it’ll feel like a chore. If you are into cheap, chaotic B-movie energy and can forgive rough execution for a few gnarly effects and moments of dark fun, you might still get your money’s worth.
