Streamline is special because it treats teenage talent not as a victory lap but as a pressure cooker, turning the familiar “sports movie” setup into something raw, intimate, and quietly devastating. It’s a gritty Australian drama that lives in the chlorine-blue hush of the pool and the lonely, hollow spaces outside it, where perfectionism starts to look less like discipline and more like survival. Levi Miller gives a brilliant, lived-in performance, and Tyson Wade Johnston directs with the confidence of someone who trusts silence, routine, and small ruptures to do the heavy lifting. This isn’t a crowd-pleasing, pump-you-up underdog tale—if you want something honest, captivating, and emotionally bruising in the best way, it’s absolutely worth the plunge.

Streamline is clearly aiming for a gritty, intimate portrait of a gifted teen athlete cracking under pressure, using the pool as a sharp metaphor for control versus chaos. The problem is it often plays like a checklist of sports-drama beats, with an undercooked script that rushes through big emotional turns and leaves characters feeling more like functions than people. If you need psychological drama to dig deep, explain motivations, and earn its darkness, this may come off as bleak, muddled, and oddly flat despite the heavy subject matter. That said, the swimming sequences and the central performance can be compelling enough if you’re mainly here for atmosphere and a short, somber character sketch rather than a fully satisfying character study.
