Deep in the Valley (2009)

Deep in the Valley is a gleefully ridiculous “what if?” comedy that commits to its outrageous premise with the kind of straight-faced confidence that makes the jokes land harder: two regular guys stumble into a universe that plays by adult-movie logic, and the film milks that fish-out-of-water insanity for all it’s worth. What keeps it from being just a one-note raunch-fest is the surprisingly sweet undercurrent—beneath the nonstop innuendo and chaos, it’s also about shaking off a life that doesn’t fit and stumbling into something that does. Chris Pratt brings an easy, mischievous charm, and the movie’s vibe is breezy, shameless, and knowingly goofy, like a late-night comedy that winks at you without apologizing. It’s definitely not for the prudish (the sexual content is the point), but if you’re game for an R-rated fantasy farce with an unexpectedly warm romantic streak, it’s a fun, silly ride.
