Anjaam Pathiraa is the kind of serial-killer thriller that earns your attention the old-fashioned way: with patient, intelligent clue-laying, a creeping sense of dread, and a mystery that feels grounded in real procedure rather than flashy gimmicks. Midhun Manuel Thomas builds Kochi into a shadowy pressure cooker, and Shyju Khalid’s cinematography and Sushin Shyam’s pulse-tightening score make every new lead feel like it could snap at any moment. Kunchacko Boban anchors it with a calm, watchful performance as a psychologist pulled into the hunt, while the supporting cops feel like people carrying exhaustion, pride, and fear instead of just badges. It does get grim and occasionally bloody, so it’s not for viewers who want a breezy whodunit—but if you like your mysteries tense, well-acted, and quietly relentless, this one delivers.

Anjaam Pathiraa wants to be a slick, methodical serial-killer mystery where a criminology-minded psychologist helps the police stay one step ahead, and on the surface it delivers a competent procedural pace and a suitably grim mood. The problem is that once the “pattern” is established, the writing starts leaning on familiar genre shortcuts, so the investigation can feel more like connecting pre-arranged dots than genuinely surprising detective work. The film also banks heavily on explanation and backstory near the end, which may leave you feeling the drama and thrills are thinner than the setup promises, especially if you crave a punchy climax. Still, if you enjoy Kerala-set police procedurals, solid performances, and can tolerate moderate violence and a few predictable turns, it’s watchable—just don’t expect a mind-blowing mystery.
