Thor: Love and Thunder is superhero spectacle with the volume turned up—bright, weird, and sincerely playful in that Taika Waititi way, where a joke can land right beside a genuine ache without feeling like whiplash. It’s a cosmic road-trip of thunderous action and candy-colored visuals, anchored by Chris Hemsworth’s loosened-up charm and Natalie Portman’s invigorating return with real emotional weight. Christian Bale brings a darker, more haunted energy that gives the film a sharp edge beneath the silliness, so the stakes don’t evaporate in the punchlines. If you want your MCU with maximal comedy and rock-opera vibes, it’s a blast; if you prefer a more solemn, mythic Thor, the goofiness may be a bit much—but that same boldness is exactly what makes it memorable.

Thor: Love and Thunder is clearly aiming for a colorful, metal-album-cover space romp that mixes big feelings with big jokes, and on paper that’s a fun Taika Waititi pitch. In practice, the comedy often feels forced and constant, undercutting the stakes so hard that the movie can’t decide whether it wants you to laugh or care—sometimes in the same scene. The plot also feels a bit scattershot and repetitive, and despite Christian Bale bringing real menace, Gorr comes off underused for a villain with that kind of title. If you want a tighter, more dramatic Marvel adventure, this may frustrate you; if you’re happy with loud silliness, vibrant visuals, and a likable cast doing their thing, it can still be an easy watch.
