Terrifier 2 (2022)
A year after the Miles County massacre, Art the Clown is resurrected by a sinister entity. Art returns home, where he must hunt down and destroy teenage Sienna and her younger brother Jonathan on Halloween. As the body count rises, the siblings fight to stay alive while uncovering the true nature of Art's evil intent.
What people think about Terrifier 2
Terrifier 2 is special because it doesn’t just revive the slasher—it supercharges it with audacious practical effects, a wickedly playful sense of timing, and a genuine final-girl spark in Lauren LaVera that gives the mayhem a pulse. Damien Leone stages horror like a grimy Halloween funhouse: lurid, loud, perversely funny, and powered by David Howard Thornton’s Art the Clown, a silent-movie gremlin with the body language of a comedian and the cruelty of a nightmare. For all its extremity, there’s craft here—set pieces built like clockwork, gore that feels tactile rather than digital, and a mythic, midnight-movie vibe that lingers after the credits. It’s absolutely not for the squeamish (or anyone who wants “cozy” horror), but if you can handle the intensity, it’s one of the boldest, most crowd-reactive modern slashers you can watch.
Terrifier 2 is clearly trying to be a throwback grindhouse slasher that cranks the cruelty, spectacle, and Halloween-night vibe to maximum, with Art the Clown as a full-on horror icon. The problem is it’s far more committed to endurance-test gore than to story momentum, and at this runtime the thin plotting and uneven pacing can start to feel like you’re waiting for the next set piece rather than being pulled through a coherent nightmare. If you don’t enjoy prolonged, graphic torture and mutilation presented with a wink and a shrug, this will feel less “scary” and more punishing. That said, David Howard Thornton’s physical performance is impressively controlled, and there’s a scrappy, practical-effects passion here that splatter fans will respect—just don’t expect it to be subtle, tight, or remotely gentle.
