Legion (2010)

Scott Stewart stages the mayhem with slick, muscular style, and the premise—angels as instruments of wrath—gives the action-horror a punchy, blasphemous edge that’s hard to forget. Paul Bettany brings a stoic, battle-worn gravity that sells the absurdity, while Dennis Quaid and the diner ensemble make the “strangers under pressure” setup surprisingly watchable between bursts of creature chaos. It’s not for viewers looking for subtle theology or fresh originality, but if you want a high-concept, high-octane supernatural brawl with intermittent jolts and a confident B-movie swagger, it’s a real hoot.

Legion wants to be a pulpy, end-times siege thriller with biblical flavor—guns, monsters, and a scrappy group of strangers holding the line in a desert diner. The problem is it often feels like it’s running on fumes between attacks: the pacing drags, the dialogue leans clunky and expositional, and the story borrows so heavily from familiar apocalypse and “trapped in one location” horror beats that it rarely surprises. If you’re coming for smart mythology, coherent world-building, or characters you’ll genuinely care about, this will likely irritate you more than it entertains. Still, Paul Bettany commits, the creature/possession moments have some nasty energy, and if you just want a dumb, grimy, R-rated supernatural shootout, it can scratch that itch.
