Night of the Sicario (2021)

Night of the Sicario takes a familiar “siege thriller” setup and gives it a surprisingly fresh pulse by setting the showdown in an assisted living facility, where courage isn’t measured in muscle but in resolve. As a hurricane bears down and cartel hitmen close in, the film finds real heart in the unlikely alliance between Natasha Henstridge’s tough, grounded Taylor Ward and a group of residents who refuse to be reduced to bystanders. The tone is lean, tense, and gritty, with bursts of action that feel urgent rather than flashy, and a faith-tinged undercurrent that aims for uplift without turning the movie into a sermon. It’s not for the squeamish—there’s graphic violence and constant threat—but if you like contained thrillers with a human core and an underdog spirit, this one delivers.

If you want smart cat-and-mouse plotting or fresh cartel-thriller intensity, this likely isn’t for you; if you’re fine with a straightforward, slightly faith-tinged, “underdogs hold the line” action flick, you may get some mileage out of it.
