The film’s genius is how it weaponizes its glossy resort atmosphere into satire, using identity, privilege, and consequence as pressure points until you’re not sure whether to laugh, flinch, or both. The problem is it often mistakes escalation for insight: the film gets increasingly graphic, sexual, and mean-spirited without always earning the “why,” so if you need coherent rules, emotional anchors, or a payoff that feels deeper than provocation, you may leave annoyed. It’s also deliberately cold and disorienting, leaning into hallucination logic and humiliation rather than suspense in the traditional sense. That said, Brandon Cronenberg delivers striking imagery and a committed, unhinged Mia Goth performance, so if you’re here for abrasive body-horror vibes and satirical nastiness, it’ll do the job—just don’t expect it to be subtle or comforting.
