Gil Kenan stages the supernatural mayhem with a clean, fluid sense of momentum, and Javier Aguirresarobe’s camerawork gives the scares a polished, almost theme-park precision without losing that creeping-in-your-own-hallway unease. Sam Rockwell grounds the spectacle with a likable, human performance that keeps the family at the center of the chaos, so you’re not just watching effects—you’re feeling the desperation. It is familiar territory if you know the story, but if you want an entertaining, jumpy, crowd-pleasing horror remake that builds to a punchy, effective climax, this one earns a night with the lights on.

Poltergeist (2015) is clearly trying to modernize a classic haunted-house setup with slicker effects, a likable family dynamic, and a fast-moving “save the kid from the other side” hook. The problem is it rarely feels like it has its own identity, leaning so hard on familiar beats that the scares start to feel prepackaged rather than genuinely unsettling. If you want inventive, lingering horror that gets under your skin, this may come off as noisy but oddly tame, more theme-park jolts than dread.
