Critters Attack! (2020)

Critters Attack! understands exactly what you came for: rubbery, ravenous little monsters, gleefully messy splatter, and the kind of midnight-movie energy that doesn’t apologize for being a creature feature. Set in a small college town and anchored by Tashiana Washington’s game, scrappy lead performance, it plays like a rowdy babysitting gig from hell—quick, punchy, and happily ridiculous as the Crites roll in and the body count follows. The practical effects and crunchy gore give it a tactile charm that CGI-heavy horror-comedies often lack, and the movie keeps the tone light enough that the mayhem feels more mischievous than mean. If you’re squeamish about bloody attacks or want elevated sci-fi, it may not be your thing, but if you want a fun, fang-to-the-throat throwback with laughs between the screams, it delivers.

Critters Attack! is clearly aiming for a cheeky, blood-splattered throwback where a babysitting gig turns into a scrappy alien siege, and it does deliver plenty of creature violence for fans who just want Crites chomping through a small town. The problem is the movie spends a lot of time with fairly thin characters and slow stretches that feel like filler, so the momentum and laughs never consistently kick in the way a horror-comedy sequel needs to. If you’re coming for the franchise’s campy charm and rapid-fire mayhem, this one can feel oddly flat and underpowered. But if your expectations are modest and you’re mainly here for some gnarly R-rated attacks and a low-stakes late-night creature feature vibe, it’s watchable enough.
