It’s the kind of horror where the filmmakers’ ambition is part of the fun—you can feel them reaching for big, eerie ideas even when the seams show, and that earnest effort gives the bloodshed a pulpy momentum. Lori Petty’s brief appearance is a jolt of personality that perks up every scene she’s in, while the whole film leans into its supernatural gateway premise with a gleeful, B-movie intensity. A Deadly Legend is clearly trying to mash together a cursed-camp setup, ancient-worship mythology, and a frantic survival story with lots of old-school gore. The problem is the writing and pacing feel patchy and often incoherent, so instead of building dread it lurches from idea to idea, making the “big” supernatural reveals land with a thud. The scares are thin and the low budget shows in ways that undercut the film’s grand gateway-to-hell ambitions, though it does deliver on splattery, mean-spirited kills if that’s your main draw.
