The Last Voyage of the Demeter clearly wants to be a grim, old-school monster movie: Dracula as a relentless predator, a doomed crew, and a claustrophobic ship turned into a floating nightmare. The problem is it often feels like a strong short story padded into a full feature, with long stretches of setup and repetitive “something’s out there” beats that dilute the tension instead of tightening it. Characters are sketched in broad strokes, so when the body count rises you may admire the craft more than you actually care.
